The Sukhoi Su-17M4 was the final major production variant of the Su-17 fighter-bomber family, developed to provide the Soviet Air Force with a versatile platform for tactical strike, close air support and battlefield interdiction missions. Featuring variable-geometry wings, a powerful Lyulka AL-21F-3 turbojet engine and upgraded navigation and weapons-delivery systems, the Su-17M4 offered improved operational capability in demanding combat environments.
